Avard Mann established himself as a Hall of Fame inductee in hockey when, as the oldest player on the club, he was a member of the Truro Bearcats Maritime Senior Champions. In 1928 and 1930, the Bearcats lost to Montreal in Allan Cup playdowns and a year later defeated McGill before losing to Hamilton in Allan cup play.

The versatile athlete won the Maritime Skeet Shooting championship in 1938; represented Nova Scotia in MacDonald Brier curling championship in 1952, 1955, and 1956 and won the Provincial Seagram’s Senior Curling Championship in 1965.

Avard was elected into the Sport Hall of Fame in 1980.
