Bert “Basket” Messervey was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A hard-working baseball player, Bert played the outfield position for the Halifax Willows. Messervey was a small player who was known for making “shoestring” catches, lending his talents to what was already an excellent team.

Bert is an original Sport Hall of Fame inductee.
