Bill McKay, of Springhill, Nova Scotia, was an excellent hockey and baseball player. In 1919, McKay played hockey for the Springhill Hockey Team with Hall of Famers Red Stuart and George Weatherbee. The Springhill team took the Nova Scotia Senior Championship that year by defeating the New Glasgow Black Foxes by a score of 8-4.
McKay was also an original member of the 1921 Springhill Fencebusters Baseball team that captured the provincial title with a 4-3 victory over Middleton. In 1922, Bill played for the Fencebusters again and had a great season.
McKay was easily the most outstanding infielder in the province at the time. He played for the Fencebusters in 1927-28 with Hall of Famers Ackie Allbon, Charlie Paul, and Nugget Richmond. Bill was a rigorous trainer at both of his sports and he mastered his roles on both teams.
