Dave Thompson was from Westville, Nova Scotia and was one of the town’s most outstanding baseball pitchers. He faithfully played for Westville teams and in 1924 his Pictou County team defeated the Springhill Fencebusters in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball Finals. Thompson pitched brilliantly and was the series winning pitcher. (In the previous season against the same Fencebuster team, Thompson was the winning pitcher in a key playoff game that sent the series into a tie-breaking game.)

Thompson’s talent caught the eye of the New York Giants, and in the early 1920’s was asked to try out for the team. Thompson, however, retained his amateur status. He is an original Sport Hall of Fame Inductee.
