Donald MacVicar, of Donkin, Nova Scotia was a powerlifter that has held 38 Canadian records. He was a four-time Canadian champion and a World Cup silver medallist, twice, first in 1980 in Santa Clara, California and again in 1981 in London, England. He was a bronze medalist at the 1983 World Championship in Gothenburg Sweden.
MacVicar was a North American Champion in 1979 and 1980 and placed in the top ten in 3 other international events. He was an Ontario Champion 5 times as well as a 4-time Eastern Canadian Champion. MacVicar was referred to as the strongest man in Canada in 1982 and in his classification of 52 kilos he has the ability to lift 10 times his body weight.
His Canadian records include in the 114-lbs. category: Squat 451 lbs. Bench press 292 lbs., and total lift weight of 1,118 lbs. In the 123 lbs. category his records are: Squat 485lbs., Bench press 297 lbs., and a total lift weight of 1,218 lbs. In most instances he was beating Canadian records that he was currently already holding.
