Details:

Edna Duncanson was born in Avonport, Nova Scotia in July of 1916. She exhibited her athletic prowess at an early age with a desire to excel in all sports. As few female teams existed at the time, she performed on the mens teams and never appeared out of place.

Following several years of stardom on local softball and baseball teams, Duncanson departed for New York where she attracted the attention for her skills. She was asked to tryout with the famous New York Bloomer Girls as a pitcher and third baseman. After the tryout, she was immediately signed and told to report for a game in Trenton, New Jersey. She spent the next year travelling with the team, but unfortunately, the team disbanded in 1935 and returned temporarily to Nova Scotia. In 1936 she returned to the United States for two seasons with the semi-pro basketball team, the Staten Island Shamrocks. Edna Duncanson was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1996.

Edna passed away on November 4th, 2006.
