Gerald Walsh had a dazzling career at St. Francis Xavier University. He was a stand out in boxing, hockey, and rugby; he dominated these sports in the early 1940’s and won the Maritime intercollegiate title in boxing.
Walsh captained the Nova Scotia intercollegiate and Maritime senior football championship teams. He also played on Maritime and Nova Scotia intercollegiate champion hockey teams. He played professionally for the Hamilton Tigers (as they were known then). Tarp Walsh was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1982.
