Born in Yarmouth, Nate Bain devoted his life to the youth if his community. Through his dedication, Bain has instilled integral traits into the young people of his area. While serving as the Physical Director of the local YMCA (1928-59) he devoted many hours to coaching, teaching, and character building. During the 1930’s he coached high school baseball and basketball and from 1942-1959, he served as the Camp Director for the YMCA. Not only did he teach others, but he also led the Yarmouth Gateways Senior Baseball Team to the 1929, 1932, 1934, 1935, and 1937 Nova Scotia Senior Baseball Championship and the 1929 and 1935 Maritime Senior Baseball Championship.
