Neddy Borne played his first game of organized rugby in 1897 as a member of the Halifax YMCA junior rugby championship team. He was a star performer in ten amateur sports, but was an exceptional basketball player, being the first basketball star to be elected to the Hall of Fame. Borne was a rugged athlete, whose basketball career lasted 43 years and was also an excellent cricket player.
He was a member of the Wanderers’ team that played and defeated many of the English teams that were touring the Maritimes. Borne was one of the best tennis players in the Maritimes. He was very good at volleyball, gymnastics, running, and handball. He was also a star in the indoor softball league that played at the Halifax Armories. Neddy Borne brought new meaning to the term “all-around athlete.” and is an Original member of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
