Seven young men, members of the New Glasgow High School track & field team, travelled to Calgary in 1937 to compete in the Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships. They returned with seven first-place finishes and three second-place finishes, as well as a first-place ranking for the overall meet.
Vernon MacDonald won the 100 and 220-yard dashes; Herb Mills won the 880-yard run; Bob MacDonald took the 440-yard dash; Lawson Smith won the pole vault; and Bill Moore won individual aggregate honours, with first-place finishes in shot put, discus, and javelin. The mile relay team of Mills, MacLeod, McCormick, and Bob MacDonald won first place and set a new Canadian junior record. The team also captured nine first-place wins at the Highland Games that year, with Bill Moore taking home the junior aggregate title.
