Peter Doig has done it all. At the age of 16 he won the New Brunswick – Prince Edward Island Junior Golf Championship, and over the next thirteen years added the Nova Scotia Junior, the Nova Scotia Open, the Nova Scotia Amateur, and most Maritime major tournaments to his list of titles. Add to this total, 11 club championships at his home course of Ashburn, six Willingdon Cup teams, Maritime Amateur, Maritime Senior, third in 1946 and 47 at the Canadian Juniors and was a representative on four Provincial Senior golf teams at the national level.
Doig won the Nova Scotia Senior titles in 1986 and 1987, and placed second at the Canadian Senior in 1988. His Scottish father, who played at the old Gorsebrook course in the south end of Halifax, drew him to golf. He used to sneak over the fence to try his hand at the game and at the age of 9 he began to caddy. He was always involved with golf and volunteered for administrative roles in clubs and tournament play, as well as coaching. Peter Doig was elected to the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1994.
Doig passed away on August 17th, 2014.
