Ves Laing, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, was an outstanding hockey star in the early 1900’s. Ves played junior hockey with the Halifax Crescents until he was 18 years old and went on to join the Halifax Crescents Senior Hockey Team as an amateur. In 1912, Laing joined the Nova Scotia Professional League by playing for the Halifax Socials for a salary of one hundred dollars per week.

After the professional league folded, Laing went on to play for the Amherst Ramblers. He was considered one of the best amateur defensemen in Canada at that time. Laing went on to coach the Kentville Wildats until he left to serve in World War I.

He was severely wounded in the war and was transferred to the Camp Hill Hospital for treatment. After recovering, Laing lived out the rest of his life in Kentville, Nova Scotia. He is an Original Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame Inductee.
