Walter Dann was diagnosed with Polio at the age of three. At such a young age his life was suddenly changed forever. Dann could have given in to his diagnosis, but loved sports too much for anything to hold him back.
As a wheelchair athlete, Dann won more medals than the majority of athletes could ever dream about winning. Throughout a decade and a half of competition in National and International wheelchair and disabled games (including the Olympics of 1968, 1972 and 1976, the Pan American Wheelchair Games of 1971 and 1982) he won 52 gold medals, 39 silver medals, and 33 bronze medals in basketball, weightlifting, and track and field.
Walter Dann was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1991.
