Nomination Deadline - January 31, 2022

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame has decided to postpone Induction Night 2020 until fall 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision was made in the hopes of delivering a ceremony befitting the inductees. As the inductee class of 2020 has become the class of 2021, there will not be another class of inductees selected until 2022. All currently active nominations and nominations received after January 31, 2020 will be considered in 2022, without losing a year of eligibility. Nominations for induction 2022 will be accepted until January 31, 2022.

ELIGIBILITY FOR NOMINATION

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame accepts nominations from the public for the categories of Athlete, Builder and Team. The Hall of Fame encourages the public to submit nominations for review. The following are points to consider when submitting your nomination.

DEFINITION AND ELIGIBILITY

ATHLETE

An individual who has competed in sport and who has achieved excellence at a provincial, national or international level.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Any person who was born in Nova Scotia or resided in Nova Scotia during his/her accomplishments for a minimum of four (4) years.
  • An athlete shall be eligible for election after a period of three (3) years has elapsed from the date when, in the opinion of the selection committee, the nominee has retired or has competed at the highest level of competition.

BUILDER

An individual who has made a major contribution to the development and advancement of sport or sports provincially, nationally or internationally.

May include but not limited to: Administrators, Officials, Technicians, Coaches, Educators, Organizers, Sponsors

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Any person born in Nova Scotia or who resided in Nova Scotia during his/her accomplishments. A builder shall be eligible for election at any time.

TEAM

Two (2) or more individuals who have competed in a team sport, represented Nova Scotia, and have achieved excellence at a provincial, national or international level.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

A team shall be eligible for election after a period of five (5) years has elapsed from the date when the team achieved its major accomplishment. A team can be nominated for multiple years of competition if the members remained the same and the accomplishment is equal.

Each year the Selection Panel and Committee review an average of 75-100 nominations. A maximum of seven (7) are selected as inductees for each induction year, five (5) inductees being the maximum for athletes/teams and two (2) the maximum for builders. Staff at the Hall of Fame are available throughout the year to answer any questions regarding nominations and to assist in putting the nomination together.
