Does your team need a tune-up? Have your players lost confidence in their skills and abilities? Do they lack self- discipline and mental toughness? Are you searching for ways to motivate and inspire them? Well… search no more!

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame and World Champion kayaker Karen Furneaux are joining forces to “P.O.W.E.R Up Your Team”. Karen is offering FREE motivational presentations that will include tips and tools to help you and your team stand above the rest. Whether you’re preparing for the first game of the season or the last game of the playoffs, Karen will help your players be at their best.

WHO IS KAREN FURNEAUX?

Karen Furneaux is a three-time Olympian and two-time World Champion in the sport of sprint kayaking. She has recently authored and published her first book, Strong Beauty: Power Up the Champion Within. She has also been named one of the Top 15 Athletes in Nova Scotia sport history. Karen is proud to partner with the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame to deliver presentations to student-athletes as part of the Future Hall of Famers Education Program.

Her P.O.W.E.R. acronym can be easily applied to any athlete, team or coach. In her sessions, she teaches the importance of:

  • Presence – stand tall and radiate confidence
  • Openness – to learning and growth including failures and challenges
  • Wisdom – within self and others around you
  • Energy – engaging in one’s performance to promote positive results
  • Resilience – hanging in when times get tough

Karen uses engaging storytelling based on her personal experiences, and also is adept at addressing issues specific to teams and athletes.

Her presentation topics can be tailored to your team and will include a combination of the following:

  • Mindset and performance
  • Fuel up for energy: Pack healthful snacks
  • Resilience, stress and energy management skills
  • Enhance team work and team cohesion
  • Decrease self-sabotage and enhance positive self-talk
  • Create healthy boundaries for self, with others, online
  • Enhance confidence with consistency
  • Core strength and stability
  • Effective warm-ups and cool-downs
  • Recovery and self-care, Yoga and body rolling

P.O.W.E.R. sessions run for 45 minutes and feature: a movement piece, learning topic, group discussion and learning activity, Q&A, prizing and a group stretch. These sessions are ideal for all teams, but especially for those looking to compete at the highest level.
