April 18, 1950 was a banner night for Queen Elizabeth High School of Halifax. Before a standing room only crowd at Dalhousie Gym, QEH upended Montreal YMHA 53-49 in the second game of a two-game total point series (QEH won the opener 48-45) to win the Canadian Juvenile basketball championship. Frank Baldwin, later to contribute heavily to the growth of basketball in Nova Scotia, coached QEH to the win. QEH completed an undefeated juvenile and headmaster’s season with the win.
Members of the team were: Frank Baldwin (coach), Donald Clancy, Martin Duckworth, John Dunlop, Bob Haughan, Francis Harington, Edwin Hutchinson, Derek Jones (co-captain), Tony Lugar (co-captain), Mike MacDonald, Gordon Rankin, Hugh Sutherland, Peter Walker.
