Billy Rawley was from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a prominent athlete during his years at StFX University. After graduating, he began his medical degree at Dalhousie University, later finishing it at Harvard.
While in Nova Scotia, Rawley played baseball for the Halifax Crescents semi-professional team. He played professional baseball in the United States with the New England League, and was also a trainer at Dartmouth College.
Rawley was a dedicated performer and a firm believer in physical fitness. He always began his training early and could be found swimming in the cold water long before the baseball season opened. Every spring, Rawley would go to club in the old New England League and improve on his pitching. He wasn’t happy playing for American teams, so once the season opened in Nova Scotia he would always be back, playing with a local team.
The well-liked Rawley became the coach and trainer for the Kentville Wildcats after finishing his playing career. He is an original Sport Hall of Fame inductee.
