Charlie Patterson and Sandy Patterson were speedskaters from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. For more than 70 years the name “Patterson” was predominant in sports in the Halifax and Dartmouth area. Charlie and Sandy were stars in many sports, excelling in hockey, baseball, and running. The Pattersons were great speed skaters in 1890. That year, they captured the Maritime Speedskating Titles in the half-mile, one mile, and the three-mile races and also became the Eastern Canadian Speedskating Champions. Charlie and Sandy have won countless medals throughout their careers.
Charlie himself was a star long-distance runner as well as a talented speedskater. He could often be seen putting on exhibitions between periods at local hockey games
