Delmore William “Buddy” Daye was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, but built his outstanding boxing reputation in Halifax rings. Urged to fight due to the absence of another opponent, his talent and skill brought him a moment of glory.

The high point of his career occurred on June 30, 1964, when he won the Canadian super featherweight championship from Jackie “Kid” Carter in a 12-round bout. Daye defeated Carter at the Halifax Forum in front of 5,000 fans. He held the title for the next 18 months.

Daye went on to become the first African Nova Scotian Sergeant-at-Arms for the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.

Daye passed away on August 31st, 1995.
