Donald “Chick” Charlton excelled in both hockey and baseball. He was a member of the Halifax Jr. Canadians and won the Maritime championship in 1941-42. Charlton was a fixture on the Moncton Hawks and captured the Maritime Senior Hockey Championship in 1946-47.

He was an All-star member of the Halifax Arrows that won the H&D League championship, a member of the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball Championship and the Maritime Senior Baseball Championship in 1947. He was also a member of the Halifax Capitals which won the H&D League, Nova Scotia and Maritime titles in 1948.
