Frank McGibbon of Antigonish was a remarkable sportsman. In hockey, McGibbon played goal for the Antigonish team that won the Maritime Junior hockey championship in 1931 and 1932. The next year, McGibbon played senior hockey for Antigonish when they lost to Saint John in the Maritime finals.

At the conclusion of his playing days, Frank McGibbon was determined to impart his vast knowledge of sport to the youth of the Antigonish community. He began a career as a coach of minor hockey and constantly led his teams to success. He coached baseball and softball teams from little league to senior.  

But his major contribution has been in track and field. His dedication to perfection has enabled young track and field athletes to reach international stature. His hundreds of hours of work on the facility at  Columbus Field in Antigonish were painstaking evidence of his efforts for the youth of his community. He provided a wide breadth of contributions to sport in Nova Scotia.
