George Cutten was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and was one of the most outspoken and powerful educators in Nova Scotia. A terrific football player in his youth, Cutten was known for his prowess on the athletic field.

Cutten attended Acadia University. He was the captain of the football team in his final year and graduated in 1896. He became ordained in the Baptist ministry in 1897 where he went on to Yale university to obtain his masters degree.

With his competitive spirit and love of the game, he went on to become one of most outstanding football players at Yale University. Cutten became the President of Acadia University in 1920, a position he held until 1922. He was very popular with the students and often came out on the field to practice with them. His students recognized him as a man with great gentleness and understanding. George Cutten is an Original Sport Hall of Fame Inductee.
