Barrett has dominated Canadian Special Olympics power lifting competitions throughout his career with 20 gold medals, and he has represented Canada well at the World Special Olympics competition with an incredible 13 first-place finishes. In his final year of competition (2015), he set three Special Olympics world records, lifting 277.5 kg, 297.5 kg and 697.5 kg in the squat, deadlift and triple combination events respectively. In the same year he also became the first Special Olympics athlete to be nominated for the Lou Marsh Award as Canada’s top athlete.
