John (Jook) Munroe has been an outstanding Nova Scotian Golfer for more than 40 years. In 1957, he was first among the amateurs in the Nova Scotia Open to earn a place on the Nova Scotia Willingdon Cup team, one of three on which he played. After winning another Nova Scotia amateur title in 1958 he decided to turn professional to help pay for his education.

Munroe served his pro golf apprenticeship in Toronto and placed fourth in a Canadian Professional Golfers Association tournament. He placed first as a professional in the Nova Scotia Open in 1959, won in 1960, third in 1961, second in 1962 and won again in 1963. A four-time president of the APGA, Munroe won his first of a record seven Atlantic Professional Golfers Association championships in 1961.

In 1967 he represented the Atlantic Provinces at the Carling World Golf championship in Toronto, the only Atlantic golfer to do so. In his first year of senior golf, he placed first or second in nine tournaments. He was named golfer of the year by the NSGA and in 1993 he won the provincial senior title. John Munroe was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1997.
