John MacIntyre was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1897. He began his boxing career in 1914 by defeating Steve MacInnis in a bout in Glace Bay. MacIntyre boxed over 200 professional bouts in the Maritimes, Western Canada, London, Paris, and Detroit. Many of his most successful and well-remembered fights were fought in Detroit.
MacIntyre was known as one of the cleverest lightweights in Canada. With his solid punch, great stamina, and exceptional speed, he was successful in obtaining the Maritime lightweight and welterweight titles. John MacIntyre retired from boxing in 1932, after defeating Johnny Congelo in ten rounds. He is an Original Sport Hall of Fame Inductee.
