Leonard Boss was born October 19, 1919, in Springhill, Nova Scotia. Len Boss was regarded as the greatest “fireballing” right-handed pitcher in Halifax and District history. He won approximately 75 percent of the games he pitched.
He was the pitcher for the Springhill Fencebusters, winning four provincial titles during the 1940’s, the Truro Bearcats in 1947, and the Halifax Shipyards in 1950. During this time he was also named the all-star MVP, and won 75% of the games he pitched. Boss was offered not one, but two pro offers by the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies. Leonard Boss was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport of Fame in 1980.
