When she was only 15 years old, Dartmouth Crusader swimmer, Marie Moore headed off to the 1983 Winter National Swimming Championship where she was seeded second in the nation for the 100 and 200-metre butterfly events. On the first day, she finished an impressive second in the 200-metre butterfly and on the last day of the meet Moore won the 100-metre butterfly event and set a new Canadian record previously held by Nancy Garapick.

After her sudden successes in the winter of 1983, Moore started to make an impact on the international scene. That summer in Venezuela she raced to a bronze medal in the 200-metre butterfly at the Pan-Am Games. She went on to become a National Champion in the 200-meter butterfly in the Olympic year of 1984.

At the Canadian Olympic trials she qualified for the Olympic team in the 100-metre butterfly and won the 200-metre butterfly by over 2 seconds. A consolation final finish in the 200-metre butterfly in Los Angeles completed her memorable season.

She went on to swim for Dalhousie University for one season before heading to the University of Victoria for three more seasons. She medaled at several national and CIAU championships. Marie Moore was elected into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1995.
