Roy Hunter was a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was an excellent athlete in both hockey and rugby. Hunter was one of the star players on the great Halifax Crescents Championship Hockey team of 1908. His talent helped carry his team to countless victories around Nova Scotia and the rest of the Maritimes.

Hunter was also a first-class rugby player who helped his Halifax Crescent AAA Football team to win the Junior League in 1905. He was one of the most sought-after junior players by the management of the famed Senior League. Roy Hunter is an Original Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame Inductee.
